World Down Syndrome Day – The Matthews Family | Barrie Family Photographer
In acknowledgement of World Down Syndrome Day today, I wanted to celebrate a very special little client of mine and her absolutely amazing family. I’ve had the pleasure of working with them a few years in a row now, and I always love every minute of it! They are really no different than any other family – they show up all prettied up and adorable with a pretty stressed out mom who’s worrying that the entire thing will be a gong show just like EVERY OTHER FAMILY that I work with. lol!
I will tell you what IS different though… Violet, who has Down Syndrome, is like working with a little beacon of light. Her smile shines so bright and my heart feels so big and happy when I work with her and her family, it’s indescribable. She’s always full of big, warm hugs and huge smiles and she always, always wants to see her photo on the back of my camera.
I know that some people have a hard time talking about Down Syndrome. Maybe you don’t know exactly what it is. Maybe you’re not sure how to talk to a person with Down Syndrome. Maybe you’re not sure what to say to their parents – and that’s okay. World Down Syndrome Day is about bringing awareness and ending that fear. Mia & Oliver – The Pug Project | Barrie Pet Photographer
Today’s adorable pug faces are Mia & Oliver! This sweet duo came in to model for my April (Easter) and July calendar spreads! Big sister, Mia, seemed embarrassed over her little brother’s antics, but that’s okay… their little personalities were pretty awesome and Oliver sticking his tongue out at me was pretty funny! 😉

Emrys & Everett | Barrie Twin Newborn Baby Photographer
Back in October (was it really that long ago already!?) I had the opportunity to work with Emrys & Everett and their amazing Mom & Dad. They were brand spanking new at that point, and oh so little and sweet! My assistant and I managed to do this entire session (you’ll see the WHOLE gallery below) in just under an hour and a half… yes, we gave ourselves a pat on the back. lol

Leaf – The Pug Project | Barrie Pet Photographer
Leaf was one of the youngest Pug pups to pose for the 2018 Pug Calendar last Fall. She was my February model and I just loved her seriously worried little face! lol! She was so shy, peeking around her Mama to catch glimpses of me every once in a while until she warmed up enough for me to get what I needed.

Bennett Turns 1 | Barrie Baby, Child, and Family Photographer
I can’t tell you what an honour it is to meet a family and photograph the very first days of their very first newborn baby. The only thing that is a bigger compliment than that is when that same family hires you to capture their first child’s first birthday, their second child’s first few days and then the first birthday of that second child as well!
A few months back, I met up with this sweet family to help Bennett capture his first birthday portraits. You can see his Newborn Session HERE (it was a favourite of mine!) I’ll be honest, as enthusiastic as big sister Piper was to be in front of my camera, her little brother was NOT feeling the same. Eventually, he found some props I had laying around the studio (a school-inspired set) and a bunch of bright red apples. He proceeded to hoover every apple he got his hands on and was then happy as a little clam. I absolutely LOVE that he, somehow, created his own first birthday set AND inadvertently had an “Apple Smash” instead of the usual “Cake Smash”!

Pig – The Pug Project | Barrie Pet Photographer
Meet Pig! This little character was my calendar model for my January and August spreads… he was such a sport – wearing a scarf and booties AND posing in his pool floatie (safety first!) lol!
My kids got to meet Pig while he was here and completely fell in love. I did too. You will too, once you see what a little ham he was! Enjoy! 😉

Tucker – The Pug Project | Barrie Pet Photographer
This week, I am going to be sharing at least one pug session per day on my blog, because pugs make everyone smile and who doesn’t need a smile!? Seriously!
Last November, I undertook a personal project called “The Pug Project”, where I photographed 9 different pugs on a variety of different themed sets for the purpose of a 2018 Pug Calendar (The cover photo is below) 😉
I’ve chosen to start my week of sharing with sweet old Tucker. Tucker was nearly 13 when she came in to see me… I was pretty excited when her Mama submitted her photo for consideration for the Pug Project, because I wanted a variety of sizes, shapes, colours, and ages and she was definitely the oldest gal up for consideration. There was no doubt in my mind that Tucker would become my “December Pug”. She had sweet, kind, happy eyes and a tongue that didn’t quite fit back in her mouth anymore – she stole my heart immediately. When the time came for her session, she rocked it!
Sadly, last week, Tucker crossed the Rainbow Bridge… which is why I thought it incredibly fitting to honour her today by starting my week of Pug sharing with her. 🙂
Thank you, Tucker, for being a rockstar “Christmas Pug” for me, and for the years of loyalty and companionship that you gave your humans. You will be missed.

2018 Mommy & Me Mini Event | Barrie Photography Studio
Moms. This one is for you. If you’re like me, you probably have a photo album each year that has maybe ONE photo of you and your kids together. It’s probably a selfie, too.
That’s why, each year around Mother’s Day, I like to have a special event just for moms to get out from behind the camera and in front of my lens instead! Let me help you document you and your children together, so that you can see the love in their eyes when they look at you. So that you can remember forever just how loved you are!
This years’ event will take place from April 30th to May 5th, and May 7th to 11th from 10am-2pm. Each session is 20 minutes in length and comes with your choice of 3 digital files with print release as well as a 5×7 colour print of each one. Upgrade options are available, if you’d like. Cost is just $150+HST.

Lilirosa | Barrie Newborn Baby Photographer
I love, love, love photographing babies, children, and families of all ages… but it’s no secret that I have a soft spot for newborns. There’s just something about these tiny, fresh little humans that is so amazing, mesmerizing, and inspiring to me – I will never tire of photographing babies in the first 14 days of their lives. The way their legs still curl or stretch into the same positions they were in for 9 months, the way the light glints off of their pouty little lips… the soft, downy layer of hair that will disappear all too soon.. and even the dry little flakes of skin that will shed and be gone just a few days later.
Newborn photos are so important because this is, literally, THE most fleeting time in your little one’s life. By the time you see your portraits for the first time, your baby will already be so much different than they were at the time of your session. My purpose is to document every little bit of your tiny miracle, so that in your sleep-deprived, foggy state of new-parenthood, you will have something to look back on and cherish forever. I know it feels like you’ll never forget this time… and you won’t… but it will get a little bit foggier as the years pass by.
If you are expecting, now is the best time to book your session to ensure that you are able to snag a timeslot. Because of the unpredictable nature of when newborns will actually arrive, I only book a handful each month so that I can guarantee them a spot whenever they decide to make their appearance. 🙂
