The Couchie Family | North Bay & Callander Family Photographer
When I began photographing families nearly a decade ago, I was keen to learn, excited to try new things, and TERRIFIED at the idea of photographing another photographers’ family. LOL! I’ll let you in on a little secret… all of those statements still apply today. Behind the scenes, I am constantly brushing up on new techniques to improve my work, I’m always up for trying something new, and when other photographers hire me I fret like it’s nobody’s business that for some reason I will forget everything I know I’m good at and not remember how to turn on my own camera. That’s never actually happened, by the way…
This summer, I had the pleasure of working with this lovely family in Callander, once again. Mama is an incredibly talented professional photographer in the area, and once every few years I have the honour of updating her family portraits. Even when you’re a photographer (maybe especially if you’re a photographer) I think it’s so important to let someone else photograph your family. If you’re the parent in the family who’s always behind the camera, you’ve probably noticed that your family albums are lacking of your presence. So even though I feel like I’d love to lose 50 lbs before stepping in front of the camera, I know that my children love me just the way I am, and they cherish these images of us all together at this point in their lives, and I love to see how they look at me through someone else’s lens.
I love every type of photography that I do – maternity, newborn, children, families, and pets – each for different reasons. One of my absolute favourites though, is family photography. I LOVE to be able to draw out real, raw emotion. I love to show parents the beauty in their chaos. I love to pose families nice and close, in a little tight group snuggle, and encourage them to tell each other stories from when the kids were really little (kids love this) and then snap away as the magic of their connection and family dynamic shines through. Each and every one of my sessions starts with group family portraits (both formal and candid, standing AND sitting), and then moves on to sibling portraits, individual child portraits, couples portraits, and then if time allows, MORE awesome family portrait opportunities that get everyone up and moving around, jumping, twirling, running, and having FUN! I pride myself on being able to make those connections, creating real emotion, and turning tears and fears that can sometimes happen at the beginning of the session into genuine smiles and laughter. If I have one downfall, it’s that I usually provide clients with galleries that are a little on the large side, because there’s just so much awesomeness that happens in every session (sorry, not sorry!) 😛
As you peek through my pricing and package page (which still has introductory rates until December 31, 2019, for sessions taking place in the North Bay Region) you may wonder what I mean when I refer to the “entire gallery”. If you scroll through all of the beautiful images below, you’ll see an example of what an entire gallery actually looks like. Some folks can narrow their selections down to the package that comes with 10 images, and others can’t. For those that can’t, the All Inclusive Package exists, and it looks like this…
