There are some newborn sessions where babies are so sleepy, I never see the whites of their eyes. Then, there are some newborn sessions where I’m given the sweetest show of all of the most adorable facial expressions you can imagine – Levi’s session was one of these! He came in to my Studio super sleepy, and slept through all of his family and sibling portraits. When the time came for his solo segment, he was more interested in my camera and his surroundings than the backs of his eyelids. 😛 This gallery should be reassurance to parents that no matter how your baby decides to be during your session, we’re getting beautiful portraits no matter what! 🙂
If you’re expecting in December, and live in the North Bay area, my current pricing includes TWENTY digital files (twice as many as usual) AND a complimentary Memories in Motion Film (See examples of Studio Style and Lifestyle Examples). All sessions taking place in December will take place in the comfort of your own home (even the Studio Style sessions)! By January, 2020, my brand new Callander Photography Studio should be up and running and ready for all of your smiling faces! I am accepting newborn bookings from January to March at this time as well, and I will honour my current newborn promotional pricing, which includes the 20 digital files of your choice when you book your session in advance, as newborn sessions are best booked while you’re still expecting.

Welcome Baby K | North Bay & Callander Newborn Photographer
Clean. Crisp. Classic. When this sweet little man’s parents requested classic black and white with dark wood accents for his studio newborn session, I KNEW it would be one of my favourites! I love pops of colour and natural organic tones, but every once in a while I’m so excited when I get to do a purely classic session like this one. This particular session was a dream… he slept when I needed him to sleep, and he woke up at the end to capture some adorable images of all of his many little faces.
Did you know that newborn sessions are best booked while you’re still expecting? I like to see babies in the first 5-14 days of life to ensure the sleepy, squishy poses that you see in my portfolio. I typically see newborns in my Studio, for sessions like this, but as my current studio is still under construction, with an expected grand opening of January, 2020, I am currently taking my mobile studio to clients homes in the North Bay Area!

Welcome Hannah | North Bay & Callander Newborn Photographer
Right before I made the move to Callander from Barrie, I received an inquiry for maternity and newborn portraits from a brand new client who I knew I was going to hit it off with right away. Not only could I tell that this Mama had my kind of sense of humour, but we had something else in common that I actually found myself yelling out “NO WAY!” to nobody in particular as I sat all alone in my old studio in front of my computer. (And no, it wasn’t the fact that both of our husband’s are named “Brian”…) 😛
“My old photographer sent me your way” she said. “PS. I noticed your new address as of May 30th…This was OUR first home before we sold it to the people you would have purchased it from!”
I couldn’t wait to meet this family, so when that finally happened for their maternity session in Callander in September, I shot their session, and then we all came back to my new house (their old house) where we chatted on the front lawn until the sun went down. They booked their newborn session shortly after that, and I think it was pretty nostalgic for them to have it happen in the same place where all of their previous sessions had taken place before me.
Their newborn session took place in October, after baby Hannah arrived. The session was fabulous, and I thank this family profusely for putting up with the sounds of construction during their session that are continuing around here even today (thankfully they had a VERY cooperative newborn!) 😛 Their newborn session was the very last one that I did here before construction noise and debris became too much to continue having clients until the addition is complete (in case you wondered why I’m not offering indoor Christmas Minis this year, that’s why…) For the remainder of 2019, I will be visiting clients in their homes for their newborn sessions (both studio and lifestyle varieties), and I have a few spots left in December. WHAT CAN WE EXPECT DURING OUR SESSION?
During a session with me, you can expect full direction as far as posing goes! I help to get you and your children into position, I correct your hair if it’s in your face after your hands are positioned, I tell you when to look at me and smile, when to look at your children, I give prompts every single step of the way to take the guess-work out of this for you! When it comes to the kiddos, sometimes they just need to run wild and free, and if this is your child, please don’t fret! I will chase them around and play with them while shooting until I’m satisfied that I have a beautiful gallery to give you to choose from. You can expect laughter, fun, and a beautiful quality final product! If the images below look like something you’d love of your own people, I would love to work with you!

The Couchie Family | North Bay & Callander Family Photographer
When I began photographing families nearly a decade ago, I was keen to learn, excited to try new things, and TERRIFIED at the idea of photographing another photographers’ family. LOL! I’ll let you in on a little secret… all of those statements still apply today. Behind the scenes, I am constantly brushing up on new techniques to improve my work, I’m always up for trying something new, and when other photographers hire me I fret like it’s nobody’s business that for some reason I will forget everything I know I’m good at and not remember how to turn on my own camera. That’s never actually happened, by the way…
This summer, I had the pleasure of working with this lovely family in Callander, once again. Mama is an incredibly talented professional photographer in the area, and once every few years I have the honour of updating her family portraits. Even when you’re a photographer (maybe especially if you’re a photographer) I think it’s so important to let someone else photograph your family. If you’re the parent in the family who’s always behind the camera, you’ve probably noticed that your family albums are lacking of your presence. So even though I feel like I’d love to lose 50 lbs before stepping in front of the camera, I know that my children love me just the way I am, and they cherish these images of us all together at this point in their lives, and I love to see how they look at me through someone else’s lens.
I love every type of photography that I do – maternity, newborn, children, families, and pets – each for different reasons. One of my absolute favourites though, is family photography. I LOVE to be able to draw out real, raw emotion. I love to show parents the beauty in their chaos. I love to pose families nice and close, in a little tight group snuggle, and encourage them to tell each other stories from when the kids were really little (kids love this) and then snap away as the magic of their connection and family dynamic shines through. Each and every one of my sessions starts with group family portraits (both formal and candid, standing AND sitting), and then moves on to sibling portraits, individual child portraits, couples portraits, and then if time allows, MORE awesome family portrait opportunities that get everyone up and moving around, jumping, twirling, running, and having FUN! I pride myself on being able to make those connections, creating real emotion, and turning tears and fears that can sometimes happen at the beginning of the session into genuine smiles and laughter. If I have one downfall, it’s that I usually provide clients with galleries that are a little on the large side, because there’s just so much awesomeness that happens in every session (sorry, not sorry!) 😛
As you peek through my pricing and package page (which still has introductory rates until December 31, 2019, for sessions taking place in the North Bay Region) you may wonder what I mean when I refer to the “entire gallery”. If you scroll through all of the beautiful images below, you’ll see an example of what an entire gallery actually looks like. The Shevalier Family | North Bay & Callander Family Photographer
Crisp, Fall air and the sweet smells of baked apples and pumpkin spice make my heart beat faster. Yes, I’m one of THOSE people. I LIVE for photographing families on the beautiful, fiery backdrop of fallen leaves. Last year, I didn’t get the opportunity to photograph many families during peak colours, as I had just undergone surgery. I was pretty excited when I was finally able to pick up my camera again, and when I did, this lovely little family were the first (and only) ones I got to photograph before the leaves had all fallen and the opportunity had passed for other families.
This year, now that we are living in Callander, where the leaves change sooner than they do down South, I’m super excited to have a handful of dates available to photograph families, children, pets and couples during the peak of this season’s beauty.

Update your Family Portraits | North Bay & Callander Family Photographer
In my last blog post, I talked about different packages that are available to suit every client’s needs. Whether that package includes just a handful of beautiful images to fit on a particular wall space, or whether that package includes every single image in a gallery to fill heirloom albums, multiple wall spaces, scrapbooks, or just because there’s no way you can pick and you just want them all! The last blog post showcased a session I had done in the Spring , and was an example of a mini session where my clients just needed a few new images to freshen up their walls. The session I’m about to show you (one of my FAVOURITES from right before I moved to Callander from Barrie), is an example of a FULL session, which includes the ENTIRE gallery!
Curious about pricing? Right now, until the end of the year, if your session takes place in Callander, North Bay, or immediate surrounding areas, you can take advantage of Introductory Pricing, which believe me, is a fabulous deal!
Also, I’ve had inquiries about whether or not I will be offering Fall Family Minis in North Bay this year, and the answer is YES! If there is enough interest, I will be opening a late afternoon when the leaves are expected to be at their peak where I will be able to see up to 5 families for Fall Family Portraits! These will be at the mini session promotional price point. The Chivers Family Mini | Callander & North Bay Family Photographer
I have some clients who come to me and they already know that they want every single beautiful image in their gallery. And that’s awesome! I have some clients who come to me and they already know that they only need a handful of beautiful images to fill a very particular space on their wall. And that’s awesome too! Ultimately, what I want for my clients is to capture some precious memories for them, at this very time in their lives, whether it’s 5 handfuls worth of memories or just one. My client’s needs all vary greatly, and that’s why I have packages and options to suit just about everyone.
As most of you know by now, I have relocated to Callander, Ontario. I’m beginning to meet new faces from all over the North (Powassan, Corbeil, Astorville, Callander, North Bay, Mattawa, Sturgeon Falls, etc. etc) and I’m loving it! I’ve been loving my time on the beaches and fields in this beautiful place, and I’m starting to really look forward to FALL FAMILY PORTRAITS! I will soon be releasing details for Fall Family Minis, to take place at some point in the Fall when the leaf colour is at it’s peak, in North Bay. The packages will include a handful of images for a low introductory price (which, by the way, if you haven’t yet secured your session at this years’ introductory pricing, you should do that before it expires at the end of the year!) 😉
