If you’re a pet owner, you know that a pet is more than just a random animal roaming around your house. They are your friend and companion, they know when you’re feeling sad, upset, or scared; they motivate you and love you without judgment. Their mere presence is therapeutic.
My love for animals and intense desire to help other people prompted the launch of The Raindance Photography Pet Division, so that everyone can have beautiful heirloom portraits of their beloved fur babies too!
This year, a new puppy joined our family. As a result, I spent an astronomical amount of time at PetSmart… If you’ve ever been to PetSmart, you’ve probably seen those cages full of sweet kitties in the Adoption Room, who stare soulfully into your eyes, just tugging at the heart strings. If my daughter wasn’t allergic, I probably would have brought home at least 30 of them by now, but since I can’t, this year I wanted to hold this fundraiser in support of Street Cats (one of the amazing rescues that has cats for adoption at PetSmart.)
I am excited to be holding the 2nd annual all-day mini event devoted to Pets only! Every single penny raised will be donated to the Street Cats Rescue to help them care for all of the furry friends who are currently waiting for their forever homes.

Street Cats Rescue is currently in need of financial donations as well as donations of the following items:
- Kitty Litter, clumping
- Food (kibble and canned)
- Cat Carrying Cages
- Paper towels
- Javex, dish soap, laundry soap, garbage bags, white vinegar
If you bring in one of these items in addition to your $40 Creative Fee, you will automatically receive an 8×10 print of your pet as well! Also, anyone who participates in this event can enter to win a mini family photo session of their family in the Spring! So come on out, support Street Cats Rescue, receive an awesome heirloom portrait of your fur-baby and be entered to win a family mini session! I can’t wait to work with your fur babies!
Why did I choose Street Cats this year? Because they’re awesome, they work tirelessly for the benefit of these animals, and they deserve our help. Here’s why…
“Street Cats Rescue is a non- profit organization with registered charity status serving Simcoe County and surrounding areas. We are staffed 100% by volunteers, receive no government funding and rely solely on fundraising, donations and community support to continue our work. All money raised goes directly back to the care and comfort of the cats i.e. veterinary bills, rent, heat, hydro, food, supplies, etc.
Street Cats Rescue has a “no kill” policy. We advocate humane euthanasia only for terminally ill animals and/or animals where quality of life has been severely compromised with no hope of improvement.
Street Cats consists of physical shelter as well as a large network of foster homes. In both areas we utilize techniques and protocols that keep illness and stress levels to a minimum. We strive to get to know each cat’s unique personality which makes finding the right adoptive home that much easier. All cats are vet checked, treated for parasites and illness as needed. Prior to adoption each cat is vaccinated, fixed and microchipped. We advocate pediatric spay/neuter so even kittens are fixed prior to adoption.
Our adoption screening process consists of an application/interview. Our adoption protocols are designed to “put the right cat into the right home.” We are not driven by adoption numbers but rather we endeavour to ensure each adoption is a “good” one.
Street Cats also advocates and practices TNR (trap, neuter, return) rescue methods for feral cats.”

The Pet Division | Barrie Pet Photographer
I have always loved animals. As a child, I grew up with what we liked to refer to as “a zoo”, consisting of a variety of animals including dogs, cats, hamsters, lizards, an iguana named Iggy, fish, a hermit crab and a really really big snake (pretty sure it was a Python).
As a professional photographer, my focus has always been babies, children, and their families (which I love dearly and will still continue to specialize in), but as time went on, I found myself being pulled in a direction that I didn’t originally anticipate – more and more people were contacting me to photograph their pets. After starting to dive into the world of custom pet portraiture, I fell in love! Custom Pet Portraiture is so much more than just turning your beloved pet into art. For me, it is about capturing the personality, quirks and all, of your furry companion so that as the years pass by, no matter what the future has in store, you will be able to look back on these moments and remember this time in their lives.
Maybe they’re brand new – still tiny, sleepy, squishy, and ready to explore the big new world around them. Maybe they’re an established member of the family, and you want to capture that special bond between your fur-baby and the other members of your family. Or, maybe your pet has spent their entire lifetime with you, giving you years of love, devotion, and companionship and you want to capture their spirit and what’s left of that sparkle in their eye – to celebrate them and pay tribute to the wonderful life you’ve shared together…

Hey everyone!
I feel like I’ve been MIA FOREVER! Our family just finished moving (literally around the corner) and I’ve been buried underneath boxes, boxes, and MORE BOXES! I wanted to take a break from cleaning and unpacking to release my Spring and Summer calendar for booking, since I happened to glance out my window and notice the SUN, and it got me all excited for outdoor sessions once the weather warms up… this time of year is almost magical for me, after being cooped up all winter, limited to studio work, I begin daydreaming of that beautiful summer haze of the golden, setting sun… the warm breeze (and heck, even the mosquitoes, why not!?)

We’re trying something a wee bit different this year! I typically don’t offer family “mini” sessions with the exception of Drysdales in the Fall because I feel too rushed to get through a whole family in only 20-30 minutes. I ALWAYS have requests from families for portraits on a rustic barn board backdrop that I have here in my studio (which is waaaay too small to fit an actual family on, lol) So, this year I have secured an actual barn to use for a rustic themed family event! I CANNOT WAIT for these sessions!

I pretty much look forward to this moment from the very beginning of the year each year! This year, we lost one of our furry friends (Speckles the hamster) and as a result of her sudden passing, we found ourselves with a new furry friend (Jeff the hamster). Well, Jeff and Spots (our remaining hamster) found themselves making friends one day (thank you to my children) and suddenly POOF! 10 more little fur babies appeared in our hamster cage one morning. Imagine that. Lol
It was witnessing this life cycle that lead me to contemplate our other beloved fur-baby, Reese the cat. She is 15 and aging quickly. I realized that I needed to photograph her now, so that we have a beautiful heirloom of her to cherish forever. This realization lead me to have an intense desire to help other people have beautiful heirloom portraits of their beloved fur babies too!
As such, I will be holding an all-day mini event devoted to Pets only! Every single penny raised will be donated to the Barrie Branch of the OSPCA to help them care for all of the furry friends who are currently waiting for their forever homes.
