I know so many people have inquired about my weekend schedule for 2015, here it is! There are a very limited number of weekend timeslots available this year (20), so if you know that you’re a family who needs one of these, please contact me ASAP to book. There are about 15 timeslots left at this point (Yes, I do have bookings for October already!) A non-refundable $50 retainer is required to hold your timeslot (it will be applied to the total cost of your package).
I look forward to working with your family this year, thanks for considering Raindance Photography!
Last February, I had the pleasure of mentoring Holly, who is a fabulous newborn photographer in North Bay (Lovely Creations Photography). A few months later, she contacted me to let me know she was expecting her third baby, and she wanted to set up a maternity and newborn session! I was so thrilled for her! Her pregnancy had a mind of its own though, and she went through many unexpected twists and turns, making a maternity session impossible. I asked Holly to share her story with us today, which she very graciously has. It was quite an eventful pregnancy, read on (and then have a peek at her super adorable little miracle baby’s newborn session with me below!)
“I was asked by Stephanie to write a blog about my pregnancy and Kayden. Well of course my mind is totally blank on how to start so here it goes!!!
Kayden was my 4th pregnancy. I miscarried in March 2014 and of course was devastated and was lucky enough to get pregnant again in late April 2014. This was probably the best start to a pregnancy I’ve had compared to the other two. My morning sickness wasn’t bad at all.. I mean I wasn’t throwing up like I did with the other two, but I was just more nauseous. I was really enjoying being pregnant again up until about 26 weeks. This is when my pregnancy took a 180 and changed the way I felt about being pregnant. At 26 weeks I went into labor and delivery to get checked for back pain (more specific, throbbing spinal pain)…not thinking anything of it, I thought I would just be monitored a bit and be able to go home and rest. WELL!! This is where everything turned my world upside down. My OB came in to check me because I was exhibiting early labor signs. Really?? I didn’t think anything of it at 26 weeks! He checked my cervix and behold! I was dilated and my cervix was shortening. No hesitation on his part, he called to get me shipped out to a hospital that would have the proper care for a baby being born this young. Talk about mind blowing and so many emotions started to go through my head, not to mention a bit of a panic attack! They were prepping me to fly out on a helicopter ASAP. Long story short, I was monitored in Ottawa for a week and was finally able to go home. I was so thrilled and happy to be home to see my girls and my husband!! What was only a week felt like forever….but that was only the beginning!
Literally one day/night home, I lost my mucus plug (I know, gross and I apologize). Hmmm, so I thought of course I would go get checked again. Guess who got flown out again the same night but on a plane this time!? And back to Ottawa it was!! I was there for another week or so. At this point I was almost 28 weeks pregnant. Apparently, my diagnosis is that I have an incompetent, irritable uterus! This time I was mentally and physically prepared to have my baby. Luckily she decided to stay in and I was able to go home again…. This time I really hoped to make it to 30 weeks so that this time I could stay home because this is the earliest gestation that our hospital would deliver and keep the baby. So I had ultrasounds and many appointments over the next few weeks. One afternoon I took a nap. I kept feeling like my water would break for this pregnancy (my water broke each time with the other pregnancies) I woke up November 13th in the afternoon to my water breaking. Was I worried? Nope! I was prepared to have her since 26 weeks and knew this was it! I made it to 33 weeks!! woohoo! The nurses and the doctors were thrilled I made it this far along even though baby was going to still be premature.
I had Kayden at 12:47AM on November 14th via emergency c-section. I lost all my fluid and they had no choice to deliver her ASAP. This was my first c-section and not knowing what to expect I went in nervous. My husband and I couldn’t have asked for better care through our experience in these months! Our baby girl was born 4lbs 1oz at 18 inches long. She was super healthy! She didn’t need any assistance for breathing or anything at all besides a feeding tube for only about a week and a half! I was so happy! She really only stayed in the hospital until she was 36 weeks (minimum gestation they would let go home) and she gained a bit more weight and of course was feeding well.
Knowing this was my last baby I was going to have, in my mind I knew how important it was to have newborn photos done of her after all of this. She was my little miracle baby. I knew Stephanie for a while now and I wouldn’t trust anyone else (besides myself lol) to capture her first newborn portraits. My experience was great and I’m glad Kayden cooperated at 4 weeks old after driving 2.5 hours to her Stephanie’s home studio. Being on the other side of the camera as the client was awesome as I didn’t have to worry about anything and let Stephanie do her thing. I wish that everyone could have to opportunity to capture these little moments. Kayden was 4lbs 15oz at the time of her photos at Raindance and she continues to grow every week! She is now 8 weeks old and 7lbs 13oz.” – Holly C.
It’s the eve of New Years Eve, and for my very last blog post of 2014, I wanted to share with you my most favourite set of sessions that I had all year. I love all types of photography (I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t love it) but it’s no secret that my soft spot and absolute passion falls with maternity and newborn photography. There’s just something so FASCINATING and captivating about new life that will never get old, for me.
When I met little Raiden’s Mama for the first time, she was expecting her first child. She didn’t know whether she was expecting a little boy or a little girl (although one look at her told me BOY right away!) I told her as much, I hope I didn’t ruin the surprise! 😉 He was scheduled in for a session in early October, but he didn’t arrive when he was supposed to. So, we booked him into his second tentative date, and he STILL hadn’t arrived by the time it rolled around! FINALLY 2 weeks after his due date (poor Mama!) Raiden made his grand appearance into this world.
The images that were captured during these sessions are some of my most favourite to date. You’ll recognize one of them, as it has been featured in Child Photo Competition Baby Boom Volume 29 and also won an honourable mention in the National Association of Professional Child Photographer’s weekly image competition, it’s affectionately referred to as “Heart Baby”.
If you would like to become a Raindance Client for 2015, please contact me (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information. I am currently booking weekdays in January and onwards.
And now, for the last time of 2014, I leave you with my favourite images of the year. Enjoy! Wishing you all the best for 2015! Happy New Year, my friends! 😀
I met up with this lovely family back in July for a golden hour session – I can’t wait to start offering these again next Spring! I think they all had a great time, the girls were FULL of smiles and were more than willing to ham it up for the camera. I love how this session turned out and couldn’t wait to share with you! Enjoy!
I met this wonderful family back in June. It was such a beautiful warm night, the sun was a blazing ball of beautiful golden light in the sky, the mosquitoes were a tad thick, but hey, you can’t have it all, right!?
As we now roll into the Fall months, I’m already missing the early months of summer. Outdoor sessions are becoming more difficult to book now due to Mother Nature’s volatile attitude at this time of year; and I’m heading into in-studio season. This means a whole lot of cake smashes, babies in their first year, and my favourite – squishy little bitty newborns to keep me warm over the Winter! If you’re interested in booking one of these sessions, please check out my packages under the “Pricing” tab above, and then use the “Contact” page to book your session! 😀
Every time I have the opportunity to work with this family, I get all excited! I mean, photographing gorgeous twin girls and they’re awesome parents!? What more could one ask for!?
This session was full of running and playing, laughs, giggles, kisses and hugs, and just all around fun! I have been dying to share this session for ages, because I love how every single image has turned out! One of these images will actually be making a début as a featured portrait on my studio walls next week!
Just a little booking update for anyone who’s interested – I am fully booked for October and am nearly booked for November. If you were hoping to get in to see me before the end of the year PLEASE contact me soon so that I can fit you in! email@example.com If you’re wondering about packages and pricing, please scroll up and visit the “Pricing” section of this website. There’s also a whole new “FAQ” page too, that answers a bunch of the most commonly asked questions that I receive (in case you’re interested) 😉
Anyhow, now for what you came here for – PICTURES! Enjoy!
I think maybe I’ve put off blogging Lilah’s sessions for so long because I didn’t want her Baby Plan year to be over. It literally went by like LIGHTNING and now it’s been since June or July (is it bad that I can’t remember?) since I’ve seen her last!
I first met this sweet little gal’s mom when she was still expecting. She was scouting out photography studios to find the perfect fit for her (which I highly recommend that EVERYONE do!) I was thrilled when she chose me, and a few short weeks later, little Miss Lilah was born! She was a little stinker for her newborn session, definitely one of the most challenging ones of 2013, but she more than made up for it during the rest of her sessions.
I was lucky enough to work with this little lady again when she was 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and then 1 year old! She grew to have some of the most animated expressions I’ve seen on a baby! There was never a dull moment and every single session, during the retouching, I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.
I’m missing this gal already, and am looking forward to working with her family again when she turns 2 next summer! For now, enjoy some adorable family and cake smash photos from her 1 year portrait session!
Last Spring I got together with Mel and Shawn for some maternity portraits. I’ve known these two for, oh probably 20 years or so now, so when I found out that they were expecting their first baby together I was SO EXCITED! Not only was I excited for them, because they’re going to make the most fabulously awesome parents EVER, but I was totally honoured to have the opportunity to document this moment in the lives of some of my childhood friends.
At their maternity session, they knew that baby was going to be a girl, but weren’t giving up her name just yet. When baby arrived and they brought her in, she was a DOLL! Like, literally, as I was retouching her pictures all I could think was that she looked just like one of my daughter’s perfect little baby dolls. She was so beautiful and laid back, I loved this session.
I had the pleasure of working with little Mr. Bennett last month when he was only about a week old. To say that I LOVED this session would be an understatement. Bennett was a ROCKSTAR baby, posed like a regular little model, and his big brother was probably one of the cutest and cooperative toddlers I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Mom and dad were pretty awesome too! 😉
Thanks to mom and dad for bringing in your little family to work with me, I had an awesome time and hope you did too!
This is one summer that I never want to end. Maybe it’s because we had 7 frigid, awful months of Winter this year, or maybe it’s because I’m having far too much fun with all of these outdoor family sessions that I’ve been doing!
This is the second time I’ve had the pleasure of working with this family. This year, I didn’t anticipate that their kids would be nearly as cooperative as they were last year because they know me very well now. We’re on a first name basis. Our children are best of friends. My daughter swears that she’s going to marry the little man in this family (although he’s oblivious) and his sister doesn’t want to hear about it (it actually makes her angry!) lol! Cooperative, they were, though! Like perfect little models, doing exactly what I wanted them to do. I loved this session so much and it makes me a little teary to see how much they’ve grown since last year. They’re longer and leaner, and the baby fat is quickly disappearing.
I love summer, because it’s the time of year that families typically update their photos. Well, Summer and Fall are really great for that (so if you didn’t manage to squeeze into my summer calendar, which is now fully booked, contact me NOW so that you don’t miss out on the Fall season!)
